Crawdad Festival-Isleton, CA - Friday,Saturday & Sunday June 18,19 & 20
They say over 200,000 attend, but the festival of crawdads still has that small town feel and appeal to me-it's not "intense" in any way, like the Asparagus Fest....much more laid back, bring your lawn chair, listen to the music kinda laid back-don't get me wrong, the chamber of the great city of Isleton goes to great lengths to see that you and your family are safe-there is a ton of security staff on hand. I can't say I saw any need for anyone to intervene on the day I attended. You should go if you've never gone before. The bikers descend on the town and take over (not in a bad way) all the bars and restaurants in the town. If you love bike gazing-this is where you'll have many bike or biker-gazing opportunities. Some other "Unofficial" Crawdad Fest information...the people that live in the hood sell cold drinks from their ice chests right out on their front lawn- I thought that was cool...especially since they have to endure the party in the streets for 3 days in a row, they ought to have access to some of the benefit too, don't you think?
This is where the largest consumption of crawdads outside of Louisiana happens over a three-day period in any one town on the planet.
Some 25,000 pounds of crawdads, to be exact! Did you ever see a bunch of folks in a crawdad eating contest? You've gotta see it! It's a hoot!
There are crawdad races (the losers may be eaten) for all to see! These rascals are the quarter horses of crustaceans and are race ready!
Do you want to hear some Cajun sounds? We're talking about 20 bands covering four stages!
There's more than just crawdads to eat, too. There is enough gumbo to float a boat. Yep, we have Jambalaya! The rice has spice, and plenty of sausage! Do you have a taste for gator? We've got it! It's said that these critters were domesticated and trained to jump into the fryer and onto a stick. They are yummy!
The festival is more than just food, there's carnival for all ages!
You'll find plenty of vendor booths bursting with all that hard to find stuff you just can't buy in a retail store!
And all you runners, don't forget Sunday's 5 Mile Fun Run at 8:00am.
The Isleton Crawdad Festival is wheelchair accessible, with handicap parking and restroom facilities.
Overnight accommodations for RV and Tents. No dogs please
The Crawdad Festival is brought to you by the Isleton Chamber of Commerce and the major sponsors, Budweiser, Southwest Airlines, 95.3 KUIC, and Contra Costa Times.
We are looking for volunteers! When the festival is over you'll be our guest at the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, where you'll be served all you can eat and drink. Contact the Isleton Chamber of Commerce for more info.
